How We Serve Through FPC

Pastor Hadachek often closes the morning worship saying “The Worship has ended, the Service begins.”  We serve the church in many ways.

Session

Any FPC member can be nominated to be ordained as an elder.  The elders are elected to make up the session.  Session members are elected for a three-year term and can serve two consecutive terms.  This group oversees the daily operation of the church.  Ideas or suggestions for change are always welcome.  Current session members are:  Shirley Nothern, who also serves as church treasurer; Micah Tice, Richard Burks, Kathy Bottrell, Nancy Cousland, Arlene Kadel, Craig Cousland, Harry McGrath, Mary Margaret Cooney, Pat Cashatt, Barbara McGrath and DeeAnn Harbaugh, who serves as clerk of session. The clerk maintains the rolls of the membership, baptisms, called meetings, and other church records. Pastor Deb Hadachek moderates the session..

Above and below:  Session members work through the items of business at a regular session meeting.

Choir

The church choir, directed by DeeAnn Harbaugh, sings the second Sunday of each month.  Practice is after church on the first Sunday of the month and before church on the second Sunday of the month.  Anyone who enjoys singing is always welcome to join in making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Greeters

Greeters meet worshipers at the front door, give them a bulletin, introduce themselves to newcomers and help them feel welcome, take up the offering during the service, record the number present in the service, and make sure everyone present is comfortable.   Session members take the responsibility of finding greeters for each Sunday service.

Liturgist

The liturgist assists the pastor during worship by handling the order of worship up to the children’s sermon.  The session’s Worship committee arranges for liturgists each Sunday.  Volunteers are always welcome.

Candle Lighter

Usually done by younger members of the congregation, the candle lighter carries the light to the Christ candle at the beginning of each service and extinguishes the light at the end of the service.

Presbyterian Women

Beloit PW is affiliated with the PC(USA) Presbyterian Women organization.  Membership in Beloit PW is open to all who participate in, or are supportive of Presbyterian Women in any way.  Beloit PW meets the second Wednesday afternoon of each month.  Each meeting includes a Bible Study.  Beloit PW supports many involvement and action projects which include global and local missions such as American Red Cross Blood Mobile, Beloit Ministerial Association, Church Social Life, Fellowship of the Least Coin, Hunger Offerings, the local food pantry, the Salina rescue mission, Sterling College, Thank Offering, Meals on Wheels, helps host the Teacher’s Welcome Luncheon, and takes the lead on funeral dinners held at the church.

Preparing the Sacraments for Communion

Members of the Worship Committee take the lead on preparing the sacraments for the communion table; however, help from members is always welcome.  Preparation includes baking the communion bread, filling the communion cups, and preparing the pastor’s challis and plate.

Homebound Communion

Each Sunday that Communion is offered at church, the Pastor and one Elder takes communion to homebound and rest home members.

Hosting Fellowship Hour

There is a fellowship time in the parlor at 10:00 a.m. each third Sunday of the month.  Coffee, juice, water, and pastries are served.  While session members take the lead to ensure someone will be hosting fellowship time.  Volunteers are always appreciated.

Beloit Ministerial Association (BMA)

FPC is a member of the BMA and FPC members have opportunities to serve through supporting and participating in the various local missions of the association.

Marian and Judy co-host the Sunday morning fellowship hour which is enjoyed by all.
