Church Parlor

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), or PC(USA), is a mainline Protestant Christian denomination in the United States.  The PC(USA) was established by the 1983 merger of the former Presbyterian Church in the United States whose churches were located in the Southern and border states, with the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America.  The PC(USA) denominational offices are located in Louisville, KY.  The PC(USA) is a member of the National Council of Churches, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, the World Council of Churches, and Christian Churches Together.

The Constitution of PC(USA) is composed of two portions:  the Book of Confessions which outlines the beliefs of the church by declaring the creeds by which the Church’s leaders are instructed and led, and the Book of Order which gives the rationale and description of the organization and function of the Church at all levels.

PC(USA) has a representative form of government known as a Presbyterian polity with four levels of government and administration.  The Governing bodies are the Session (made up of elders elected by the congregation), the Presbytery (made up of all the congregations and Ministers in a geographic area), the Synod (made up of Presbyteries within a geographical region), and the General Assembly (made up of commissioners elected by Presbyteries with its voting membership proportioned with parity between elders and Ministers).

The FPC of Beloit is one of the 67 congregations that make up the Presbytery of Northern Kansas.

FPC Session

The FPC of Beloit maintains a session of 12 members.  The pastor serves as the moderator.  Members of the session can serve as treasurer and clerk. The elders are assigned to committees that focus on Evangelism and Fellowship, Personnel and Finance, Worship, and Building and Grounds.  The Session meets the first Wednesday of each month.

Pastor Deb moderates a session meeting.  DeeAnn, Clerk, and Shirley, Treasurer, keep session members up to date on church business and church finances.

Presbyterian Women (PW)

Presbyterian Women is an independent organization within the PC(USA) of more than 300,000 women.  The programming and resource options for the organization offer a variety of ways for women to live out their faith in an inclusive, caring community.  The PW intentionally seeks the membership from all racial/ethnic groups so that the organization reflects a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence in which diversity contributes to wholeness.  The PW gives strong support to the mission of the denomination and determines its own leadership, programs, and budget.  For more than 200 years, PW groups have strengthened the Presbyterian Church and played a major role in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.  The PW purpose states:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:

·      To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study.

·      To support the mission of the church worldwide.

·      To work for justice and peace.

·      To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promises of God’s Kingdom.
